| play hard-to-get 欲擒故縱 |
A: So she stood you up last night.
A: 結果, 她昨晚放你鴿子啦?
B: Well, I guess she's trying to play hard-to-get with me.
B: 嗯, 大概想跟我玩「欲擒故縱」的遊戲吧!
◆ "play hard-to-get" 也可以說成 "play tough-to-get"。
◆ "stand someone up" 是「放某人鴿子」的意思。

| play the field 同時和多位對象交往 |
A: I guess Jason is no longer playing the field. He's going steady with Jeannie.
A: 我想, Jason 終於不再同時「腳踏多條船」了。他現在只和 Jeannie 在一起。
B: Really? That's some big change.
B: 是啊? 這可是很大的改變喔。
◆ "play the field" 這個俚語是用來形容某些人在與異性來往態度像運動員一樣的在球場裡跑來跑去, 沒有定下來的時候。
◆ "steady" 是「不變」的意思, 所以美語裡也就用"go steady" 來表示「與固定的對方交往」囉。

| player 用情不專 |
That guy is a player.
那個男的很花。
◆"player" 這個字的意思很多。從打球、玩遊戲、演奏樂器、播放DVD 的DVD Player 到感情上的玩家都可以是個 "player"。

| pop the question 求婚 |
A: I can't believe he popped the question last night. I mean, we've only been together for one month.
A: 我不敢相信他昨晚(向我)求婚了。我是說, 我們不過在一起一個月而已。
B: Did he really?
B: 真的嗎?
◆"pop the question" 就等於 "propose", 是求婚的意思。那麼那個問題 (question) 是什麼呢? 應該是 "Will you marry me?" 吧 =)。
